In MySql you can specify users as 'username@host'. Make sure that all users have the hostname set to 'localhost'. You can also block the port used by MySql, allowing connections from localhost only, and if you are so concerned about security, changing the port number of MySql seems to be a good idea, too!

If I were you, I would not start my small business by developing a new inventory program! Look for a commercial one, they are not that expensive and have all the functions you require… In case you want to develop such a program, then you better turn to sources about business IT and accounting.

SQLyog is a database manager and definitely not a graphical end-user interface. It was designed for db admins and not for the average users!

You can create an sql script file for the job and choose “Use a query…” option instead of copying the tables.

By the way, why do you have to import the same table that often?

It seems, it is already done in MySql 4.1, because I don't get all the databases listed and I use 4.1-alpha…

Yep, that's what I have meant, SQLyog crashes when I would like to select the table with the matching name from the list. So, it crashes BEFORE the Transformation button would appear, not to mention the “Column mapping and transformation” dialog.

I let Dr Watson to complete its error log (the word you won't understand are in Hungarian, but I provided the translations – hope accurately enough):

I use SQLyog v3.11 and it does not display all the databases, just the ones the user has access to. Try checking the global rights!

Well, Themetal, you haven't tried hard enough! In ODBC import choose table copy. Then you will see all the tables in your db in a list where you can specify which to import. After selecting a table, a button will appear in the “Transform” column. Just click it and then check the auto increment field in those columns you need it! Oh, and you can add indices as well!

Sure it works, but there are a few catches as always… You may want check out MySql's manual (MyODBC section for example) or dwam.nt web site (http://www.dwam.net/mysql/).

Currently I have no knowledge of any MySql clients that fully support v4.1 apart from mysqladmin. Ritesh promised a new version of SQLyog compatible with 4.1 to be released later this month, and MySql AB has been developing a new ODBC driver (v3.52, currently in alpha) which will comply with the new binary protocol of MySql 4.1. There is only one workaround to this problem: do not use passwords, users without password are able to connect to the server. If security is too important, then I suggest downgrading to 4.0.x.

If the user does not have a password, then SQLyog is able to log in and works perfectly with 4.1-alpha…

According to MySql AB, only ODBC Driver v3.52 will support the new binary protocol implemented in 4.1 . Guess, this might be the reason of login failures with passwords.

    Hi!

I'm experiencing the same problem ever since upgrading to MySql 4.1 . Both MySql-Front and SqlYog (3.11) are unable to log in if password is required. Is there any solution to this?
