    Thanks for the nice suggestions.

Yes, Excel-like copy functionality will be definitely great.

We will discuss this internally and update this thread.

Excellent, I too would very much like to see this added – I often use the results of a column select as a subselect clause for further queries and right now I have to do that one painfull cell at a time – 'export this column' or even 'export this row' (whether that row happens to be selected or not) would certainly help me on a daily basis.

    1) I do not thin that we will add “…” or similar 'placeholder-stringt' that was not in the original query.  the + sign should be enough I believe.

Okay then, although perhaps the bracket highlighting would look more correct when it was able to display and thus highlight the end bracket too. If you ever did decide to add a … placeholder, that might also be made to act as an expander control. But I'm very happy with whatever you decide, so don't worry about explaining your descision if you decide not to.

    2) Reasonable request.  But I do not know exactly where this context menu should be enabled (on the +/- sign only?) and what is possible. We depend on Scintilla editor/library functionalities.

I was thinking on the context menu displayed when one right-clicks anywhere over the sql query

    Thanks, have a good one

    Hi Classaxe,

This issue is known and already in our issue tracker,

    http://code.google.com/p/sqlyog/issues/detail?id=667

    Thanks and Regards,

    Khushboo

Many thanks, I did do a search on 'drag and drop' in the forum before I made the post and was surprised not to see it mentioned elsewhere.

    Thanks again,

    Martin

    well ..

Actually every program does the same for us. Also Notepad for instance. Could you try?

Also using the ip of the remote machine and not hostname/computer name makes no difference to us.

I think Windows expects you unmount the share before detaching the remote computer! If we do this the error always pops up immediate!

(I am not sure if Windows has some 'network broadcast system' that will unmount the share automatically after some time).

    details may depend on

    * OS (for us Vista is faster than XP), but details may depend on OS hotfixes and servicepacks installed

    * Also maybe firmware (in network cards, routers etc.) matters.

Well thanks so much for checking on this, I guess we just have to live with it then. I can see why using an IP address rather than a host name would have a much quicker 'abort' – no ambiguity, no waiting around to see if something responds. Perhaps I can add laptop to by lmhosts file so that name resolution becomes instant and I can get out of trouble that much faster.

Blessings to all who responded and thanks most sincerely for all the work you do on SQLYOG – it's a great product.

I still do not understand! Are you telling that then *next time* it will last very long? Please try *pin it out* how you can reproduce.

Also I think we need inforamtion about the OS. Is it Vista? I have noticed htat Windows Explorer on Vista is some respects behaves differently than XP (it seems to 'memorize) and the API calls we send from SQLyog will basically use the 'built in' file system routines.

Sorry if I am somewhat slow here …

    Sorry I wasn't clearer earlier.

    Okay,

here's how to set up he problem:

    1) Ensure that the remote machine where your script file is stored is switched on, connected and available – in my case this is a laptop which runs Windows XP Home Edition.

    2) Start the machine you wish to run the script from – in my case this is my desktop which runs XP Professional. They connect using a windows workgroup as per the screen shot in an earlier post.

    3) Open SQLYog 7.0 RC

    4) Select a database

    5) Press control+o to open the sql script dialog.

    6) Navigate to a sql script file on the OTHER computer via local area network and open it.

I selected one on my laptop via a UNC network path like this: \laptopACER ©shared_database_builds1244.sql

    7) The script opens straight away. Great. That's what it should do.

    8) Exit SQLYog

Here's where it all goes wrong:

    9) Switch off the machine you just accessed the file from, or just pull the network cable for the same effect.

    10) Open SQLYog on the original machine again

    11) Select a database

    12) Press control+o to open the sql script dialog.

    13) Now wait. Go away and make a cup of tea. Come back. Wait some more. Perhaps play some mine sweeper.

    That's it.

    1) please try to turn off autocomplete from program 'preferences'.

    2) we have another recent report with very slow operation when locating network folders.

Some issue seems to be there! it would be nice if you could confirm if it is related ot autocomplete or not (there may be some issue with alias support introduced in 6.5)

Hi Peter I did this. Now the message in the status bar remains at the equally irrelevant 'Objectbrowser refreshed…'

Other than this, time time taken for the dialog to return was 2 minutes 35 second this time:

    [attachment=943:dump2.png]

… after which it comes up with this:

    [attachment=944:dump3.png]

This is an easy thing to reproduce – just get an sql file from another machine using a networked path, then close the application and take the other machine offline (I wish all faults were this easy to replicate 😉 )

(I will turn autocomplete back on now)

    Blessings,

    Martin

I think we need more info about the type of network! Is it s 'workgroup' type of network, a domain-server-controlled network or something more special (like involving SAMBA shares on Linux)?

If you use the ip and not the 'machine name' does the same thing happen?

Maybe if the WinAPI does not return the errror that network is not available then I think it may 'wait forever'.

    Hi there,

My appologies for the somewhat ill-framed bug report, let's change 'hangs forever' to 'hangs for what seems like forever' 😉

I'm obviously just impatient – it doesn't die forever, just for a 2 minutes and 20 seconds (I timed it).

The only 'clue' on the screen as to what might be happening is an hour-glass, windows telling me that 'the application has stopped responding' and the somewhat irrelevant message 'Rebuilding tag file completed' in the status bar, obviopusly left over from an earlier operation.

After the system eventually times out it takes me to 'My documents' – not an unreasonable substitution.

Perhaps the status bar message might be changed to say 'Browsing to last used file location, please wait' which might give me a clue as to what the 140 second delay might be all about. I had previously been killing the process and using mysql front instead (remember that?)

Personally I'd like to see either a reduced timeout or at least a status message telling me what was going on during the hold up.

The network is a windows workgroup, I have attached the dialog showing what I did before I unplugged the laptop.

    Very valid points!

We will discuss internally and let you know how/what are we going to implement.

    Hi there,

I see something close in 6.5 beta – very nice!

It didn't change the message or button however when I made a change to the settings, that last piece perhaps needs to go in too.

    Blessings,
