I totally agree. I downloaded this software today and my first impressions were, “useful”, followed by “ouuu cheap 'n' nasty” after I clicked the close button. It doesn't give a very good impression of the software, and given all the effort the developers have put in it's a shame to spoil it by showing a nag screen at shutdown.
Showing a nag screen every time at startup is borderline over-the-top, but showing it everytime the app is closed too is too much.
Providing a free version is intelligent business, but extensive nag screens is madness – because anything that needlessly annoys customers is always a bad thing.
I may well buy the app, but it's the feature set that will determine whether I do. The extensive nag screen would only determine whether I ditch the free version for one of the other SQL front-ends out there.
