I totally agree with your concept of not touching the server, therefore client side would be totally ok.
Also, I know that there are other, different hosting providers, unfortunately sometimes I don't get to choose where my customers' sites are located. Also, where I work, we have a specific hosting partner and this won't be changed anytime soon, as bad as it might seem.
Here in Switzerland it's quite common to have so many hosting providers that work like this, as you say, more-than-average-dump – a fact that unfortunately I can't change.
I see that it might cause problems with your “GUI reading”, so yes, I would really like to have this feature, still there is no sense in recording a request if you know almost for sure that there is no chance.
Thanks for the tip with the colors; already knew that, unfortunately it does not help me since my problem is with databases located within a single “connection”, and I would not want to make a single connection for each database.
