Precisely. Use a default connection. If the user wishes to use any connection other than the default, then they would open the query/application in the usual manner. The connection manager dialog could have a tick mark or some way to mark the default connection.

My search on the subject brought this one thread up. This is exactly what I am looking for so I can simply double-click my query and have it open in YOG. Has this been done in the interim or will it be done?
