colingMemberpeterlaursen wrote on Oct 30 2008, 08:49 AM:hmmm .. are you aware that you can open multiple query tabs? (Ctrl+T)
Won't it solve to open two query tabs and execute one query in each? Note that the result set(s) for each query tab are 'sticky' – so the result tab(s) for every query tab displays with the query tab.
Thank you! – I did not know this. It gives me exactly what I wanted.
(BTW. Although this forum software says that 'currently receiving email notifications of replies', I did not see any email from your reply – hence this time lag. Thanks for your response.)

colingMemberWhen I re-installed 5.11, there was no sqlyog.ini created. Maybe that's why it did not start.
Luckily, I was able to restore a previous (ANSI) copy of sqlyog.ini, and I am happy to report that it is now working.
Thanks for your help.

SQLyog uses UTF8 internally as it is the unicode charset that works best for a MySQL client. Whenever SQLyog communicates with Windows it (has to) use(s) utf16.
Actually when you upgraded from 5.x to 6.x the sqlyog.ini file got re-encoded from ansi to utf8. That is probably why it cannot be read now.
Please try.
1) Open sqlyog.ini in Notepad .. save as .. select ANSI
2) Delete or rename sqlyog.ini (note that your connections details will be lost)
