Hi
Since I upgraded to 9.3.2 from a recent version typing in the query pane is painfully slow.
I guess it is the auto-completion but I've changed nothing in between times

You don't have to *guess* it is autocomplete! Can you try turning it off temporarily from tool .. preferences .. power tools? In particular the option to “show suggestions as you type..”.
We know that some AV/security software may case such slowdowns. This applies to some ESET/NOD versions at least. What do you use of the kind?
I really doubt that there was any cahnge in this respect with 9.32. It is not reproducible for me. I believe the reason is to be found on your environment and it is an accident that it happend about the same time as you upgraded.
You may also try to empty the TAGS folder. This will cause new databases/files to be built.

Rather than emptying the TAGS folder you could rename it (this will preserve the files for debugging). How big are the database file(s) you have in there?

yep it goes away if i disable autocomplete. Will see if it is anything todo with Mcafee which autoinstalled when I upgraded Adobe. — red herring.
Problem was 'show suggestion as you type” which I don't need
