      when i try to create a new table, i'm unable to enter anything in the length field.. i'm fairly new to mysql so maybe there is something i'm missing.. but the tool does not allow me to enter a length value.

      What datatype are you trying to enter a size for? the datatype of date will not allow you to. (It's predefined) I'm sure there are others although I don't know them off the top of my head.
