      Hi all,

hereby I must confirm that SQLyog sometimes just quietly disappears without a trace!

It happened to me twice this week.

First time I have just missed it at some time and did not see the moment when it crashed,

second time (yesterday) it has disappeared when I have clicked on Alt-Tab to switch from SQLyog to some another application. No error messages, no Windows (Dr. Watson) crash dialog. I have lost all my SQL queries I was working on….

Both times there were 2-3 connections to different servers open, with 2-3 SQL editor tabs in each, and with some small (max 300 short rows) result set in the result grid.

Both times SQLyog was running for at least two days without any problems and without any restarts.

I am not sure but I think it happened at least once 3-5 weeks ago with the latest stable version so it's probably not a Beta issue.

I am using latest 5.2 Enterprise beta3 on Windows XP Professional and connect to both MySQL 5.0 and 4.1.

The issue can't be easily reproduced and there were no messages so no additional info can be provided, sorry.

OK .. we must then realixse that there is an issue.

this is report no. 3 of its kind.

However please still try beta5 when avail!

      Oh yes, surely I'll do!

One more remark: I am susing SQLyog a lot, almost permanently, and had quite often similar problems several months ago; then the issue was fixed… or almost fixed, and then I did not have such disappearing experiences for a quite long time.

Hi I have the same issue, it seems to be if you leave the program running for a long time that the window will close. (e.g after a few hours)

      Oh yes, I see!

Sorry for posting it again as separate thread; somehow I did not see this another topic!

It seems to be exactly same issue: SQLyog disappears when it runs for a long time and then the users switches to another Windows application.

Now I can recall it happened always some time in the morning, probably when SQLyog was in front of other programs “running” (or actually sleeping) over the night.

Now you must be a little happier as you are at least not alone!! 😉

And I will install Beta 5 to see if it helps (have beta 3 until now).

Sorry I haven't checked the changelogs, but I've found that SQLYog crashes out without warning consistently if you stop a long running query over a MySql link that's using SSH. Has that been dealt with?

      @Chris ..

Can you tell what program version does like this?

There have been quite a lot changes with SSH since 5.15, so program version is important!

Did you try the same with 5.2 beta5 ?

Bug was present in 5.18, but I've just installed 5.19 and it seems you nailed the bug in that. Cool!

      I use SQLYog 5.19 .

If i will open “view data” from table – SQLyog crashes each time !!! 😮 The tabe contains 2048 fields with 25 rows.

older versions have displayed it < 5.18 ( i dint know which version) Smaller Tables works fine. Regards

Yes – SQLYog displayed “fields” if i see “Table Data” view. So i think you called it field. The correct specification is columns. 🙄

      can you confirm the fix?

(only two crashes fixed – apart from that no change related to beta5)

I also did not have this problem yet, after one week of using beta 5

I also experienced the problem mentioned where the Yog would close itself. It happened several times per day. It would happen sometimes with only one connection open, sometimes with several connections open. It happened sometimes when it had been open for a few hours, and sometimes when it had been open less than an hour.

The problem seemed only to happen when I was trying to switch to the Yog when it was minimized or another window was active. It would happen sometimes when I alt-tabbed to it, and other times when I clicked on it on the windows taskbar. I'm not sure if it ever just closed itself when I wasnt even looking at it or trying to switch to it.

I downloaded the “5.2 (BETA) Full” from the downloads page on Oct 4. This is the version that has been giving me problems for the past week. This seems to be the same version that is still on the downloads page today: Beta 5.

I almost forgot to mention: I have also seen the problem occur when using the 'Window' menu to switch between open connections. I click on the 'Window' menu, click on one of the other windows listed, and the Yog just disappears.

Edit: Also, I can now confirm that the problem still occurs with the unreleased version that Peter posted on the first page of this thread.

      Hello,

we are not able to reproduce this in our side.

we have a debug build here:

      http://www.webyog.com/downloads/betas/not_…g52EntDebug.exe.

Make sure to install this binary to a separate folder.

There is a BACKBOX screen that will display when the main window of SQLyog crashes. Please copy it, and attach here.

Downloading now; I will post here if it happens again.

By the way, I mentioned above that the problem has sometimes happened with only 1 connection open. I may be mistaken about that; since I posted that, it has only ever crashed when more than 1 connection was open.

Lastly, your link to the debug install is broken! Pretty easy to figure out what it should be, but not everyone will figure that out.

Ah finally got a debug log of this problem! SQLyog had been running all morning on my desktop.. I was using it intermittently for some random queries all day… Then just now I was setting up another query, I ALT-TAB to my IDE window and SQLyog crashed.

This is on Enterprise 5.2 Beta 5 Debug

Fom my side, I can only confim that

      (1) it always happened when I tried to switch FROM SQLyog TO another application

      (2) it never happened when I was just switching between connections

      (3) it did not happen at all since I have beta 5: it is up and running for 7 days now, since last Friday.

      But NOW IT DID!! 🙁

At some moment SQLyog was simply gone!

I did not realize when it happened but most probably again when I have switched from SQLyou to so another application.

So it is still an issue in Beta 5.

Should I try your debug build?

FYI: Beta 5 has crashed once again, so I have downloaded and installed the Beta 6 DEBUG.

Is there anything that I must know about error reporting with this debug version?

Running SQLyog Enterprise 5.2 Beta 6 (not debug version, where can I get the debug version of Beta 6?)

This problem happened again just now… I was actively working in SQLyog… Switched to FireFox to look something up.. Clicked on the taskbar to bring SQLyog back up and SQLyog closed itself at that point.

I don't know what *should* happen when a debug version crashes but only thing what happened now (yes, it crashed again on Ctrl+Tab) is the standard Windows problem reporting dialog which has appeared and offered to send info to Microsoft. I have even clicked on “Yes, send” but nothing kappened then (I don't have internet connection).

So there is a difference (Windows crash dialog) but no advantages compared to the usual non-debug version.

Once again: is there anything I should know and/or do?

We have new builds (identifying themselves as beta7).

The 'common' and the 'debug' builds are both available form the same links as before. Just wait a few minutes for the files to upload …

We believe that chances are good that all issues are fixed, and expect to announce it the 'News' section tomorrow.

      Neat.

Well I have Beta 7 debug installed.

I switch over to SQLyog crashed and an error box appears, but Backbox didn't come up.

Anyway I did have about 5000 records sitting in the result pane at the time if that helps.

I didn't get a screenshot, but it wasn't really a meaningful error message.

      1. It would be very helpful if you can capture and post the screenshot next time.

      2. Could you send us the structure and data of the table that was being displayed?

      3. Can you repeat the steps which lead to the crash? Or it crashes randomly?

As I mentioned I had forgotten to get a screenshot of it before!

Here is a screenshot from it occuring today.

This is completely random.. I can't force the error to occur… It happens under the same circumstances as the rest of the times I have reported this issue… It is very random and sometimes occurs soon after starting the Yog or sometimes the Yog runs for a while then spits up.

The only thing that is consistent about this problem is that it occurs when SQLYog is minimized or in the background and then I bring it into focus.

I have no way of providing you the structure and data from my database at this point in time.

This will give us a dump that we can use. The one that you give here only tells that the crash is 'triggered' from a Win32 API -functiuon. Not what SQLygo did at that particular time.

      For you records:

sadly, I had two “silent crashes” at home over the weekend (SQLyog stable 5.19 on XP Home, AMD Sempron/Paris 3100+, no dual core, no dual monitor, no big fonts but WindowsBlinds installed).

My installation at home was always very stable and has only crashed 3-4 times in the past half of year, always when I've tried to execute some query or during some data import/export… now it has disappeared twice within two days after Alt-Tab!

I'm gonna use the latest Beta with the build-in debugging.

SQLyog crashing while the user switches from another application to SQLyog has become a stumbling block for kicking 5.2 FINAL out of the door 🙁

This bug appears randomly and seems to be a environment/data related bug. We are trying fanatically to reproduce this bug at our offices.

The good thing is that this bug has forced us to develop a vastly improved Exception handler / Call Stack DUMPer. The log file generated after each crash will provide critical info on the crash.

      Happy bug hunting!

Small correction: it always happened to me on swithing FROM SQLyog to another application and not TO SQLyog — that's also the reason why I often even do not realize when it exits. SQLyog is just not here when I later want to switch back to it.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up to date with this thread. Regarding my setup:

Resolution: It happens with both 1024×768 and 1152×864

      Using only one monitor.

      Font: Normal

CPU: A single Pentium 4 3.0GHz, single core, without hyperthreading

      OS: Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 (5.1, Build 2600)

It seems to happen regardless of the amount of data in my results pane. It does only seem to happen when I have more than 1 connection open. It happens when switching to the Yog, clicking the 'Window' menu and selecting a different connection, and maybe sometimes when switching away from the Yog (though I can't remember about the latter; the first 2 cases I mention are the most frequent).

I will install the latest build and see what happens.

      Didn't take long.

      Using 5.2 beta 8:

It crashed when I alt-tabbed TO it from another application. It did not bring up anything asking me if I wanted to copy or save a dump of any kind. It did not generate a dump file anywhere that I can find. Windows did not show me the 'a program has crashed' dialogue box. It just disappeared quietly.

I had 2 connections open. I had just installed the program (to a new folder) and had just connected to 2 servers, so I am quite certain that neither connection had timed out yet. The only thing I did besides add 2 connections and open them was to turn off auto-complete. Total time between installation and crash was under 5 minutes.

Intergrated debugging in Beta 8 does not help!

SQLyog has crashed on my machine few minutes ago.

I have installed and started it yesterday in the morning, after them it was running since today, left open with 4 connections over the night, now was running with 2 connections to two MySQL 5.0 servers, 2-3 tabs in each, with some small to middle-sized result sets up to 200-500.

Now It has disappeared on Alt-Tab to another application.

No debug screen, no windows crash dialog…. just exit without goodbye.

      So long,

      Vygi

UPDATE: two hours later it happened again, not sure when … fact: SQLyog just not here anymore, so must probably disappeared without a trace on Alt-Tab as always.

It becomes frustrating now!… This is the very first Windows application I have which crashes like this! All others at least show a Windows crash dialog. OK, it doesn't help at all, but at least I clearly see that I've got a problem.

One more time and I wil have to install some 5.0 version.

I'm glad I finally found this forum. I'm running v5.2 Beta 5. I get the “silent crash” all the time (every day or so).

I'll install the debug version, and see if I can scare up any data to help with the debugging efforts.

      *later

OK, I tried to download it from here:

      http://www.webyog.com/downloads/betas/not_…g52EntDebug.exe

But I was unsuccessful. It just bounces me to the regular download page.

So, then I tried FTP….but mistakenly thought I could use my username/password from this forum.

How do I get the debug version?

Oh, BTW, I just noticed….I'm using the community version…not the enterprise edition. Same issues?

Someone else mentioned this further up the thread… But it is very possible that this error is occuring because of having multiple connections open at once..

I will continue to try to use the Yog with only one connection open for a while and see if the problem occurs.. So far it has not.

      Just for your info:

We finally reproduced this once ourselves. And got the dumpfile. Actually we have changed a little in between, so that we do not write a timestamp anymore. As it is only possible to execute very little code after the crash we took that away and spent the available/possible codelines for something more useful.

Expect info about a new build later today.

Last week I had my first “silent crash” at home, and it was with one single connection, 90-120 min after start.

I mostly connect to one single remote server and do not work long, mostly 30..90 minutes, this is maybe the reason why I did not see this problem earlier.

      @]TGKnight

I understand you have SQLyog installed on 5 systems. Right?

Does the same thing happen on every system?

It is installed on 5 computers, 2 of which are used regularly.. ( I did not realize that licensing was per user, I thought it was per computer so I had purchased 5)

I don't have the other computers using beta versions, just my own dev box.. AFAIK they are not suffering from the same problem

FYI: mine installation at work had “silent crash” again: two open connections, many small queries made during last one hour… and studdenly SQLyog was gone <_<

OK, I just got a crash. I was switching from one connection to another, and the following popped up:

      SQLyog diagnostic message

Dump file saved to 'SQLyog_Crash_Dump_2006-10-27 09_43_47.dmp'

Please tell WEBYOG about this problem.

Also attach the dump file from the SQLyog installation folder.

To whom should I send the dump file?

I would just post your dump file here if you got one that relates to this thread..

Anyway just wanted to let you guys know, I have been using 5.2 beta 8 all day long with only one connection open and it has been behaving well..

Someone further up said that they experienced the problem with only one connect, but where normally I would have crashed 2 – 3 times by now, I have been running the same instance all day long..

Will continue testing with one connection come next week.

Thanks. I didn't see that I could attach files here.

Anyway, here's the dump file from my previous message. I had to change the file extension to “.txt”….because this forum wouldn't let me upload a .dmp file.

      Just a clarification.

Licensingf is pr. computer with the extension that “individuals purchasing a single license may install a copy on a stationary computer and a laptop as well provided that this individual is the only user of the program and the two installed versions are not in use simutaneously.”

      http://webyog.com/faq/30_38_en.html

And one more point. We did not release beta9 with another debugger on Friday as we forund a few more tools to test with.

Ok going to download beta 9 shortly..

With the way you just laid out the licensing, I could have gotten away with buying 2 licenses.. Since I only have myself and one of my other guys that would be using SQLyog simultaneously..

Ok … beta 9 n 2 closed silently, no debug window appeared.

      EDIT :: x2

      Just FYI:

We made a commeting mistake with this beta10, that can cause a crash from 'manage favorites'. This is located and fixed allready. This is an isolated issue and has no relation to what we discuss here.

Here's another dump file from Community Beta 9. (I now see comments about a Beta 10….so I'll install that next.)

I had been running cleanly for about a day. Then I noticed that I've only had one connection. So, I opened two more connections. I switched between the connections a few times. Then I went to lunch, and came back. Then I switched connections again….and got the crash. See attached dump file.

So far so good with beta 10 after a few days.

I will post an update again later.

      Just for information:

We spotted the reason that some of those crashes were 'silent crashes' and the dump code did not have effect. The reason was that we used some software to compress the executable. On WinXP that could destroy the new debugging funtionality.

Though a newer version of this compression software is available and does not seem to have this issue, we will stop using it – at least for a while.

It has only been about a week since I installed it, but beta 10 is working well so far. There have been 0 crashes, so things look much better than with the previous versions. I look forward to the official release with this fix.

Thanks for getting this fixed up.

Beta 10 just quietly crashed when I alt-tabbed to it. 🙁

I will try beta 11 now.

      — edit —

Is beta 11 the same as RC 1? I am trying RC 1 now…

Beta 11 and RC 1 are not quite identical.
