Hi everybody,
After installing the trial version, the first run was accompanied with an update check at “stats.webyog.com”
That's OK.
But that is not OK, is SQLyog keeping calling home at every startup while I've disabled the update check !!
Even more disturbing is that the checks not only include the actual version and OS (needed for the update check),
but also an unique ID???
Why does webyog need the unique ID? And why does it not say anything about it?
Why can't I disable this “feature” ???
Here is an example of the data sent to “stats.webyog.com”:
/check_update.php?product_id=SQLyog%20Trial&major_version=9&minor_version=20&extra=&os=win&uuid=XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX
Any comments?

We use it for statistics aggregation purposes (like how often the actual installation of program is being run, whether it continues to be in use in the full 1-month upgrade period etc.). There is no private information sent to anywhere. We cannot identify you or any of your details from the uuid or whatever. You will find same/similar with lots (if not most) of free/trial software today.
There is no privacy problem. We know that this particular instance is being used like *this or that* (once only, every day, for 2 weeks, for 3 weeks, whatever). Not where it is runnning (ip or whatever) and not who runs it (obviously as it is not registered).

Thank you for your fast reply.

So you can confirm that this behavior is only present in the trial version?

Hi,
We record this data for all versions – Free, Trial & Full. As Peter said we do this only for the purpose of collecting usage statistics & no personal data is ever transmitted to our servers.
Regards,
Chirag
