      How do you connect remotely if your website is hosted on a shared server? For me, simply having the IP address is not enough; I also need to be able to input the location of the MySQL socket, and SQLyog does not allow me to do this as far as I can tell.

      Can someone give me an example of connecting to a shared server?

      MySql socket? What do you mean by that? If the port MySql listens to, then it can be set on the connection window.
