Don't know the reason for this, I'm using Beta 5 and just installed MySQL:
1. Install MySQL
2. Connect to localhost – Sqlyog hangs
3. Restart program
4. Connect to external host – It works
5. Connect to localhost – It works
6. Restart program
7. Connect to localhost – Sqlyog hangs
This means I have to connect to another mysql-server before the one on localhost, or else it doesn't work.
Any clues on this?

I'm having the exact same problem. I reported it to Ritesh a week or so ago.
I'm using 5.1 BETA 2. (Did I miss an announcment?)

Thanks nicmar for the detailed report. We will work on it tomorrow (even though its a saturday) and fix it. We plan to release 5.1 RC on wednesday. This will have this bug fixed.

Can you post the version of MYSQL you are trying to connect?, or it is happening with all servers?

I think your problem is same as: http://www.webyog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2041.
Can you reboot your MySQL server and retry?
Also, you will need to tell me your MySQL version?
