      After I finally got SSH tunneling to work with the trial of SQLyog Enterprise (5.19), I attempted to use the backup option, but got the following error:

      Code:
      Error No. 1227
      Access denied; you need the FILE privilege for this operation.

      What would be causing this?

      The error message says it: You need th FILE privilege!

      Conecct with SQLyog … and you can give user this privilege as a GLOBAL privilege form 'edit' user or as an 'object privilege' from 'manage permissions'

      Thank you. 🙂 I am pretty much a mySQL newbie, but I am guessing this is something I can't do myself but would need my host to do? If so, do I just ask the host for FILE privileges and give the instructions you mentioned in the previous post?

      It is common with ISP's that user management is only possible for a webbased control panel application.

      If you cannot find the option here, you will have to ask them!

      Btw, what are the advantages (and disadvantages) of using the backup option instead of the export as batch script option? Is the backup faster? Does it also lock the database to read access only?
