      I am getting an error 2013 trying to connect to a RH8.0 Linux box and haven't a clue as to what is going on. I can connect to mysql locally and via ssh from another Linux box.

      Please let me know what is going on…

      Not sure what a 2013 is and I'm just too lazy to check the docs for you but a common problem is that MySQL's security is by user AND by host. Check your permissions for the user you are using and from the host you are connecting from to make sure you have the rights to connect form that host.
