I can use sqlyog the first time I install, but after that it won't start up. I have to reinstall the program after which it runs perfectly again – once.

      Any ideas?

      hmmm. strange.

      But please check this:

      1) when the program is closed, check task-manager. Is there still a SqlyogEnt -proces running.

      2) can you reboot, and restart SQLyog?

I think the process may still be running in the background. I experience the same from time to time with Outlook2000 and the Opera browser. I will then have to kill the process from task manager. But I don't recall that SQLyog ever did this trick!

No sqlyog process running when I close it and rebooting makes no difference

Could some other process be interfering with it?

      I don't know then.

Do you have the chance to test with another PC?

Does 5.1 beta2 does the same thing?

Tried running 5.1Beta2 and I get a 'buffer overrun error' and the progam terminates

Can you try once with a different PC?

Finally located another PC to install sqlyog onto. Meanwhile I have purchased a copy of sqlyog enterprise and interesting things have happened.

The other PC is an HP laptop running WinXP Home SP2 and with Office 2003 being the only other program installed on it. It did the same thing!

Installed sqlyog and it ran fine the first few times. After I had run a couple of other programs and restarted it the same problem occured.

Watching windows task manager while I did it showed that sqlyog started and then shut itself down immediately.

      ?????

That is strange. 5.02 has been out for some months and this was never reported before.

Do you have any Pop-up killers, Ad-killers, script-blockers, firewalls … anything like that ??

Now please try version 5.1 beta 3: http://www.webyog.com/betas/SQLyog51Ent.exe (registered version – you may install it to another folder, registration information will be shared)

No need to spend time with it if if does not occur with this one. This BETA is allready better than 5.02.

Some descriptions of the new features here; http://www.webyog.com/forums/index.php?sho…view=getnewpost

If it is something related to Office 2003, I don't have any chance to test. Could you possibly try killing unneeded background processes one-by-one to see if there is a conflict?

Now it gets even more interesting. I have installed 5.1BETA3.

When the program starts it flashes the screen briefly and then shuts down. If I do this repeatedly it either starts and runs normally or it starts and I get the following error:

      Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

      Buffer overrun detected

and some stuff telling me that the program must now shut down.

It seems to be quite random

      OK …

there were more reports of this. I don't remember which version.

I think Ritesh should provide you with a debug build ASAP. I think there is such available for 5.02.

Any progress on this problem? Not anything to do with SP2 or windows updates is it?

I don't think this is related to SP2. I use it with SP2 and have no such issue.

A new BETA is planned for Monday afternoon Indian time. But I can't tell how much focus there have been on this. Ritesh will be able to Monday morning.

I'm afraid to say that the new BETA does the same as the old one.

I am using v5.02Ent at present and it works, but I have to reinstall it every time I use it.

The later versions don't work at all, they come up with the 'buffer overrun error' as before.

      ???

      Hi,

I've had a similar problem and I saw the last access to disk before crashing was

      C:Documents and SettingsTom.DZINE201Application Data

      So I renamed

      C:Documents and SettingsTom.DZINE201Application DataSQLyog

      into

      C:Documents and SettingsTom.DZINE201Application DataSQLyogOLD

and it now works. Something in there must be causing the problem. Maybe it was because my profile was in Tom.DZINE201 instead of something simpler ?

Let me know if renaming helps for you…

      Kind regards,

      Tom

      @Tom

the '… application datasqlyog' folder is where the 'favorites' are stored. If you now create some new favourites a new '… application datasqlyog' folder will be created. Does that work now?

As this seems to be related to file systems access I would suggest that people with this and similar problem(s)uninstall it, delete all folders used by sqlyog and try with a fresh installation.

I myself experienced some problems earlier with a sqlyog.ini file that had grown to messy after lots of updates. Reneming the .ini file solved the issue as SQLyog would then build a fresh one.

      @Ritesh
: does SQLyog quote like C:”Documents and Settings””Tom.DZINE201″”Application Data””SQLyog”. Maybe that was a good idea?

Seems you are onto something, Tom.

I had nothing stored in my favourites folder, so I deleted the …/application data/sqlyog folder and the program now works fine. I have added favourites and it has recreated the folder, but no more crashes

      Thanks

      Pete

      Ok,

Maybe I was a bit premature.

Still having the crashes, but it definitely seems to be something to do with that folder. It runs more often with each install now, and, by deleting that folder every time it means I can now use the latest beta 3 version.

So things are looking up, but it would be good to get some more help on this.

You mean beta 6, don't you?

Well it was not before Thursday an Friday that information was coming up, thatcould be a 'key' to this. Now it has been weekend. But now start a new working week ..

Your observation about the 'favorites' folder being related to this, might very well be the beginning of the solution.

What is your OS and the file system?

Only have beta 3 as yet, I'll download the new one and see what happens

      Using WinXP SP2 NTFS

Have discovered the problem. I had the W32/Jeefo.A virus, which seems not to like sqlyog very much.

      All OK now, thanks

Nice that you returned to tell this!
