It will take atleast 8-9 months for the first BETA to be released.

I just learned of SQLyog today after some browsing around and becoming frustrated (for the last time?) with MySQL's query browser's horrible usability/stability.
How is the progress coming on the Linux port of the GUI? I have it running in Wine at the moment, althought it definately has problems in this scenario. There are some options I simply cannot select (ex. Tools->Preferences), which is unfortunate.
Anyway, I see you're working on a Linux port of the GUI app. And I'm also happy to see that you've open sourced the community edition. How is the porting progressing?

I have no problem wit accessing preferences in Wine, see attached.
The two known problems with Wine is
1) favorites does not work
2) a few keyboard shortcut do not work
.. refer to issue 12 here: http://code.google.com/p/sqlyog/issues/list
What is your Wine version and Linux distro?
maybe you should consider to upgrade Wine?
Quote:althought it definately has problems in this scenarioPlease be SPECIFIC about the problems. A statement like this completely unusable.
There is no development being done at the time on a native Linux version. With the vast progress of Wine (and now it being ported also to Mac – and running great on FreeDSD and PC-BSD too) we are in doubt actually if it would not be better to work with Wine. We may consider to built and distribute our own 'yogwine' being built from only the Wine components that we need. Just like Google Picassa did.

The only problem I have using this in Linux is encoding…might be Wine issue, but still, I can't enter Latin2 characters when editing data, some can't be entered while others can, but are converted to ? or other weird characters when refreshing. It's kinda annoying, so I need to use phpMyAdmin for entering text. Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

I do not think it is an issue with Wine.
Did you choose a font with Latin2-support in SQLyog tools..prevferences..scripts and did you hoose a latin2 – script in the dropdown?
If you are perferctly sure that it is not an issue with SQLyog configuration, then:
Can you with other programs?
What is the LOCALE of your Linux?
Linux distribution ?
We need more info if we shall be able to dig into this.
