Like the new version of SQLyog, am testing the free version and like it. But that annoying nag screen that pops up whenever I start SQLyog and again when I exit the program is a bit too much! Anyway to get rid of that other than purchasing the Enterprise version?

Thanks for providing such good program.

Well, I would prefer It was complete, totally free and without nagscreens too … but that's not how the World works. For some strange reason even nerds want to eat a little bit from time to time 😎 .

Personally I think the webyog company is quite generous. Of course they do it for their own benefit (THAT IS how the World works!) >>> when we get to love the program we might buy it one day. But the free version is quite useful. And add to that that high-quality beta's and RC-versions with full functionality are avilable quite often too.

The only thing I would say about it, is that I think it is somewhat inconsequent that SJA for Linux is free and at the same time syncronization is not included in the free Windows version.

Concerning nag-screens, I would propose this model for sometime in the future (other programs have it):

When the program is only used very little (say a couple a times a week) there are no nag-screens. The more extensive the use of the program the more nag-screens. If you use a program several times a day I think it's OK that the amount and size/impact of nagscreens become unbearable as long as it is a commercial product.

Nag screen fine. Make it only on startup and I wouldn't care too much. What pushed me over the edge is that I'm no longer able to just hit the 'x' and be done with the application. Things get 10 times worse when you set your system on 'Shut Down' and walk away.

Putting the Nag screen on shut down has to be one of the worst business decisions in a product I've ever seen. Nothing could be more annoying and more of a turn off from the product.

I dislike Nag screens too. But is it better than cripple ware. If the nag screens get to me, I will simply buy it! I have been using SQLyog 302 for some time now. I was going to switch to v4 a while back, but I noticed they went totally commercial only. Now that I see it is free again, I downloaded it. It is very slick. I am going to buy now 😛

The full product is only $79, with free minor upgrades and $15 for full upgrade. I saved a hell of alot more than that in the first day of use of SQLyog. The freebie is great if I'm on location with a laptop or new terminal and need database access quickly. They could add banner ads and nag screens at 5-minute intervals and it would still be a bargain, especially knowing the full product is cheap change – it's worth ten times the cost easily.

as a user who has payed for SQLYog I find the nag screen terribly annoying. I am not going to shell out even more cash for the enterprise version just to get rid of it tho

I believe you are a 3.x user and you need to upgrade to 4.x Enterprise. The Enterprise version will not popup the nag screen.

The point I was making is not cause it's a nag screen, but cause it's at shutdown, too.

I just downloaded 4.0.3 in hopes they'd fixed it, but hadn't.

I don't mind a Nag screen; what I do mind is one at shutdown… Everytime we start up we are very well reminded this is the free version. I don't mind that. But I bloody heck don't need another reminder on shutdown. I don't want to exit my app having to hit another nag screen. When I exit, I want it to exit. This is one of the biggest problems I have with Outlook (I exit, kill my work VPN and it's STILL trying to connect!). When I exit, the application needs to come to an all stop w/out any additional user intervention.

I totally agree. I downloaded this software today and my first impressions were, “useful”, followed by “ouuu cheap 'n' nasty” after I clicked the close button. It doesn't give a very good impression of the software, and given all the effort the developers have put in it's a shame to spoil it by showing a nag screen at shutdown.

Showing a nag screen every time at startup is borderline over-the-top, but showing it everytime the app is closed too is too much.

Providing a free version is intelligent business, but extensive nag screens is madness – because anything that needlessly annoys customers is always a bad thing.

I may well buy the app, but it's the feature set that will determine whether I do. The extensive nag screen would only determine whether I ditch the free version for one of the other SQL front-ends out there.

      Thanks for listening!
