      Just a thought –

Does SQLyog not look too much like MS Query Analyser – from a quick look it looks almost identical.

Is this no leaving open an avenue for legal action and a potential show stopper ?

There's a copyright on their code, but there's nothing wrong with making something that functions in the same manner as other software, besides “under the hood” the code could be substantially different…

Now, disassembling code? That's another matter….

And if you think this is opening some hole for legal action, why aren't the makers of various linux softwares (for example) getting in trouble? I mean, making something free that works with MS Word, (even saves in its format!) and has many of its features, wouldn't that pose a “threat” to the word processing market? I mean, it even goes by the slogan “Star Office” as opposed to “Microsoft Office”… hmm…

It looks (and works a lot like the old iSQL tool that M$ QA grew out of. Hopefully, SQLyog will not become the bloated pig the QA has now become. I'm hoping it will stay focused on lean and mean. (Something M$ has YET to discover)

BTWThe issue of copyrighting a L&F was setteled a long time ago with Lotus and M$. (M$ “innovated” by ripping off the L&F AND the keyboard interface of Lotus 1-2-3. Lotus sued and the judged rules that you could not copyright a L&F.)

By L&F does that mean “Look and Feel” or is it “Looks and Functionality”. I know that's about the same thing, but I'm curious.

Hasn't Apple copyrighted their L&F (look and feel) for aqua? I know a lot of UI skinning sites had to remove their aqua skins because of pressure from Apple. Or did they have to remove them for different reasons?
