I have just upgraded to version 8.2, but it's painfully slow. Typing of queries is being interrupted by it hanging by up to 10 seconds every few characters. I also noticed that keywords aren't being recognised and highlighted with this version. I'm guessing that these are linked.
Is this a known problem or a dodgy installation. If it's the latter (which seems most likely) please can you advise as to how I can uninstall to reinstall while also protecting all my dB connection data. Thanks.

1) Please try to turn off the Autocomplete-feature and see if it is related to this?
2) Also please tell what version you upgraded from.
3) Do you happen to use NOD security software from ESET? Anyway also please try to turn off temporarily what you have of the kind.
One possibility that you have upgraded from a very early version supporting Autocomplete. At that time corruption of the Autocomplete database could occur as we did not use transactions when writing to it. If turning off Autocomplete solves this issue then please delete or rename the TAGS folder storing those database (in your user profile ('AppData' folder). If you need more help to locate the folder please tell the exact Windows version you are using.
Also keywords are stored in a SQLite database. Do you have a 'keywords.db' file in installation folder (and from last install) ? If not try to turn off security softwares while installing.
It is not a known issue and we have no similar reports except that with NOD/ESET you will need to create an exception for the above mentioned TAGS folder. SQLyog communicates *heavily* with the databases in that folder and NOD/ESET wants to triple-check every byte it seems!

1. Problem went away when autocomplete was turned off (though it's rather nice, so I'd like to be able to turn it back on!).
2. Upgraded from 8.17.
3. Never heard of NOD. Sounds like I should aim to keen it that way.
Will try your suggestions and let you know how it goes.

Not a lot of joy alas.
Deleted the tags folder and reinstalled. No joy. Tried again with McAfee turned off. No joy.
Found the keywords.db and deleted it. Tried again no joy.
Found an older version of sqlYog Enterprise. Uninstalled that and the already installed version and reinstalled from scratch. Now get a message telling me that Keywords.db is not found or corrupted and asking that I reinstall. It's there and I've tried reinstalling several times but always come back to the same message. 🙁

OK. Ignore this.
Having moved on to other stuff, I started to notice other apps doing mildly odd things and concluded that something, somewhere deep in Vista was not everything it should be. A quick reboot and everything was OK again. I've obviously been spending too much time on my Mac and Linux machines and had forgotten that Windows needs a reboot from time-to-time.
Thanks for your help Peter, apologies to have taken up your time.

I experienced the same behavior as soon as I installed the paid version. I had used the community version for about five months and decided to purchase it yesterday. The autocomplete lags behind to the point that it has to be turned off. I'm running a quad-core 6GHz CPU and Windows 7, and it can take eight to ten seconds for the autocomplete to catch up with my typing.
I was not able to locate a TAGS directory under my profile.
Also, I noted that the setup program wanted to install to the same folder the Community version was in. I said okay to that, but wondered if it might cause any problems.
Thanks.

We are working on this. Please try to uncheck 'Show suggestion as you type in editor' in the 'powertools' tab of 'preferences'.

We are now releasing 8.4 RC including a very significant auto-complete speed improvement.
Please refer to:

Please provide your feedback to that one.
