      Hi there,

I'm recently discovered SQLyog and I'm currently using the Enterprise trial version.

I was looking for a software which could modelize databases and synchronize with a db or export SQL creation script ; I was using DBDesigner4, but it seems the schema files can't be bigger than 32Mo and it's quite buggy. Mysql-Workbench is just very badly designed. The ajax sqldesigner tool doesn't cover every MySQL specificities (like varchar columns) …

I don't know if I should post here or in the Features request forum, please tell me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, SQLyog (Enterprise) is quite useful, and I like the last feature of SQLyog very much, but I'm sure it could be improved.

First of all, I didn't find any restriction yet and didn't experience any bug yet. Good point.

      – Could it be possible to zoom in and out in order to see all the tables in the same time?

      – Could it be possible to lock the size of the tables, in order to keep the scrollbars hidden (and show all columns)?

      – Could it be possible to make it more beautiful and printable, so it could be unshamly presentable to customers (see DBDesigner 4 for this point, notably for the FK links between tables (which is not perfect in DBD4 either))?

What about translation in other languages ? (Could we help?)

Please tell me if there is no point posting here for that questions/requests, or if on the contrary you'd like more comments.

      1) zoom request has been asked a few times before allready. Current design does not allow for it. It will take some time!

Basically the canvas currently is coded with pure win32 API coding (nothing like ActiveX or OpenGL for instance). Fundamentally it will require some kind of 'graphics layer' and a graphics processor of some kind.

      2) Can you explain why this is important?

      3)

      — > more beautiful … again you will need to detail what you do not like as of now!

      — > printable. Currently you can use a screengrabber. There are several that will let you capture a 'sub-window' (example: snag-it). We plan to implement 'save layout as graphics' soon.

And I meant DirextX and not ActiveX of course!

'save layout as graphics' (hopefully png) would be great!

To answer your 2), I can't say this is “important”, but it's nice to see the whole schema when manipulating the tables. My display has a nice 1280*1024 resolution, but I still can't see all the tables with the links viewable.

      [attachment=787:fullscreen.png]

The “save layout as graphics” function should solve that problem, as I could just export the graphic to see all the tables.

      3) More beautiful.

Unfortunately I'm not a graphist and have very bad tastes as I hardly can express what I mean. I'm gonna try anyway, and I'll add some points later if I see some others.

      – grey background : white should be enough.

      – thiner links?

      – shade behind the table windows?

      – links between tables aren't antialiased. If links could avoid going behind the tables nor cross when unnecessary, that would be great.

Here is a screenshot in DBD4, which looks lighter.

I can hardly say anything else, I guess some artist could help.

The win32-style is not very sexy either, but I guess a graphic layer could be quite heavy to develop, especially if this is not the main purpose of SQLyog …

Once again, please tell me if you don't like my comments ; I only intend to help and don't want to be rude.

don't worry .. your considerations are welcome.

And I totally agree that the 'mouse-grey' background should be white when printing / saving as graphics!
